Artist's Comments

I had this crazy whim and, in an uncharacteristic move, I acted on it.
A basic tutorial on facial expressions!
Why? Because I'm stupid. And I love drawing expressions, and I've been told I do it well, and by gum, it's all for the children. It was hard to condense the basic theory into this little MS Paint rectangle--sorry for all the text and the scarcity of illustrations. Let me know if you find it useful!
Please do not tell me that my examples look like Stewie Griffin.

you're right, it's really a little scarce with pictures but those which are there get the information across fine. The writing style is a different matter, it's very entertaining, although it might not be what everyone is looking for. Some people just prefer facts, simple and cleanly slapped in their face. I'm one of those people but I also appreciate a nice style so this works fine for me.

I think it's great that you mentioned the thing about true and fake smiles and the effect on the lower eyelid. Lots of people don't seem to know this and it doesn't necessarily apply ALWAYS (or rather, in all styles) but in any case it's a good thing to know.

Just a question: what's conniving? :0 I don't know that word and it seems like my translator tool doesn't either :XD:

Hmm, you examples kinda look like Stewie Griffon...

Great tutorial. You should write a how-to-draw book and publish it. I bet it would make BILLIONS!!! Then you could buy your own private island.

If only God would give me some clear sign! Like making a large deposit in my name at a Swiss bank. =P

I'm glad you like the tutorial overall (in spite of my spaztic writing)! I honestly can NOT write about things like this in a cold, clinical way. We're an art community, not a morgue! :psychotic:

Conniving means to be plotting evil or dubious things, or to have plans to fool someone--shifty stuff like that. n_n

Glad you were amused (rather than scared, which I had feared was a possibility)! :XD:

*THROTTLES*
But I don't know how to draw! I don't really have much of a formula. I could do a "How to Draw Exactly Like Me, Jenny Bee" book, but I don't see why I should want to instruct people in my style so that there are a squillion little Jenny clones bouncing around.
Private island, though? Hmmm...
