Artist's Comments

These are some colored-up tracings of sketches I produced while trying to kick the art block. The topmost left one was directly referenced from this picture in *Odie1049's gallery. Check him out, he's made of rubber!

What follows is a honking long description for anyone who wants to know more about these guys. SHORT VERSION: they're ex-circus-contortionists-turned-pirates, HENCE THE PRETZEL POSES.

Bio-Type Stuff
You may recognize these two from such projects as the nameless sci-fantasy collab I'm doing with my dear pal, ~SunshineKitE. They're two members of Captain Reno's pirate crew, but before that they spent half a dozen years with a traveling circus.

When they were ten or so they left the dwindling population of Sudai among which they had been born in order to try and earn enough money to leave Gaerek. Their grandmother had advised this course of action from her deathbed; it had been her final wish that her orphaned grandsons rejoin the Circle of the Sun instead of fading into spiritual extinction like the last several generations had done. (See Sudai culture.)
The circus gig was their first shot at raising money for the pricey interplanetary flight to Maea. Despite the language barrier, they were welcomed into the close-knit group of oddballs and outcasts that made up the circus family and taught to refine their already formidable bending skills. They then spent some years earning their keep as firebreathing contortionists. ROCK.

But After a while they realized that they weren't getting any nearer to leaving Gaerek, and so they had to say goodbye to their adoptive family to go in search of better-paying employment. Enter Boruk, burly cook on Reno's ship, who discovered the Twins in a fight with some rough-looking Skreithers and broke it up. He took a shining to the boys and persuaded Reno to take them onboard as deckhands, despite the captain's misgivings.

It could be said that the rest of the crew is used to the Twins by now, but that's probably the kindest way to put it. Liss has given up on ever getting them to follow instructions (although with some charades she can get them to demonstrate some crazy bends); Brai is right creeped out by them; Juti considers them not worth her time--it pretty much goes like that for everyone on board, except for Boruk. He's the only one to defend and make excuses for the Twins, the only one who sees past the alien culture and seeming arrogance to recognize a couple of teenage boys who are all alone in the world. (Boruk looks like a rhino, you guys, but he has the heart of a marshmallow. Jackie hasn't got any pictures of him posted but he belonga her.)

No one of the crew can tell the Twins apart (they usually refer to them as a unit), but the brothers have distinctly different personalities. Aiké is quieter, a bit more inclined towards smirking enigmatically at his shipmates, more of a planner and a thinker. It's usually him looking after Ro rather than the other way around; they're obviously the same age but Aiké sort of covers the older brother role. Ro is slightly less self-confident but more talkative (not that anyone but Aiké understands him) and more of a show-off. He likes to flirt with Liss and Juti. Why yes, adorable/hilarious situatons do ensue.

Technical Blahblahblahs
YELLOW PAPER. I was sick of all the designy stuff in my gallery sitting on boring white backgrounds and Sudai are supposed to have yellow(ish) skin SO IT KINDA WORKS OUT. Kinda. I colored them with crayons in an attempt to give it kind of a neat textured "primitive art" thing but I DON'T KNOW I JUST DON'T KNOW. Also their tattoos keep changing. Have spent way too much time on this description especially considering it's just an anatomy/pose study. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

God damn that is some really nice anatomy going on jerk. I think I said it at the sketches and I'll say it here. I AM ENVIOUS. Also I really like how you did it on yellow paper with just highlights and shadows on their skin. They're pretty swell.

I LOVE THEM HARD CORE, JENNY. Serious, story-wise, design-wise, EVERYTHING, you really outdid yourself with both the Sudai in general and the twins in particular. The yellow paper idea is smashing and fun as well, and these poses are delightful. THEY SO LIMBER.

Oh, and you just reminded me how much I love Boruk. <3

These are great to see, because I was just attacked by another bout of collab love, due to a few unrelated forces reminding me of it and inspiring me. I did some sketches of Collab Dingo/Jon in various stages in the process of losing his marbles, and played around with some name ideas. NEXT TIME YOU'RE ON, I'LL SHARE.

Okay, this might sound crazy (And I realise that they serve a purpose) but the loin clothes looks totally awkward.

They weren't in the sketches, I believe.

And actually, it's just the right one in the middle that does.

As always, ignore me. Also... These colors are MAGNIFICENT.

My favorite thing about your beliefs.... They have a lie right in the middle...
:icondumpysaurus:
They were in the sketches and they aren't loincloths. (They just sorta hang on the side FOR NO APPARENT REASON. For decoration? yeah, for that.) But maybe they do look out-of-place. I 'unno!

Haha, thanks!

AWWww, I LOVE HOW THE ONE HAS HIS FOOT PERCHED ON HIS HORNS. But seriously, contorting aliens. What's not to love I ask you?

On a less gushy spam-flavored, I love their expressions and how very relaxed and natural those poses look. A++ JRAENY.

And Boruk. Please draw Boruk. Or bother Jackie til she draws Boruk. GAWD I THINK I MIGHT BE IN LOVE WITH BORUK LIKE A LOT D:
